Covid-19 pandemic. The tourism industry in the United States has outlined a vision for traveling the world after the Covid-19. This was possible after consulting with medical experts and a wide range of businesses and organizations.
A document called Travel in New Normal was handed over to the White House and the governors of the United States.
The document contains detailed guidance for businesses that are involved in travel. The purpose of the document is to help ensure the safety of clients and staff as the country emerges from the pandemic.
The document outlines energetic measures that will be taken by the travel industry to reduce the risk of Covid-19 and to help communicate at every stage of the journey.
“We want political leaders and the public to see that our industry is setting a very high standard to reduce the risk of coronavirus in our business. And that the methods used to achieve this standard are consistent at every stage of travel,” – said Roger Doe, Executive Director of the U.S. Travel Association.
“As travel resumes, travelers need to be confident that security measures will be taken from the time they leave until they return home”.
The World Travel and Tourism Council published a similar vision earlier this month.
Covid-19 pandemic. The tourism industry has been particularly hard hit by the public health crisis. With an estimated eight million jobs lost as of May 1 and the projected economic impact of the Coronavirus nine times worse than on September 11.
According to Dow, the well-being of employees and guests is always the number one priority in the tourism business.
The second goal is to restore consumer confidence in the travel process in the hope that demand for travel will quickly recover and the industry can help restore the economy and jobs.
“We won’t encourage people to travel until public health experts and authorities tell us that this is the right time,” – Dow said.
“Being able to travel freely is not only a fundamental part of the American way of life. It’s also the support of millions of people,” – Dow said.
“We are determined to return to travel and new standards as soon as circumstances permit.
The document submitted to the White House contains six main provisions with specific examples:
- The travel business must adapt operations, change employee working methods and/or redesign public spaces to help protect employees and customers.
- The travel business should consider implementing contactless solutions where practical.
- The tourism business should adopt and implement improved sanitation procedures specifically designed to combat the spread of Covid-19.
- Travel companies should promote employee health checks and isolate employees with possible Covid-19 symptoms, and provide medical resources to clients.
- The travel business must establish a set of procedures in case of a positive test on the Covid-19 for an employee.
- The tourism business should implement best practices in food and beverage services
- “This collaboration should help our customers. Our businesses and the industry as a whole to move beyond the most difficult period that any of us has ever faced”.
